The University of Saint Mary Spire’s football team of 2019 has seen better days. Rattled by injuries they have found themselves in this hole of being 0-6. Key Injuries have been the story of the season as the spires have lost more than 12 starters for periods of time throughout the season. David Burton (senior middle linebacker) might have been the toughest one to lose. David was a 2ndteam all-conference performer last year and the heart of the defense. Since his absence, the defense has struggled to stop the run giving up 377 yards rushing in their last contest. The offense has also continued to struggle as they have found them self’s not scoring in the last two contests.
With all that has gone so wrong for the spires this season, there is still much promise. This is a very young team with only 4 total seniors on the offensive side of the ball. They are posed to make a run at the end of the season just as they did the year prior to winning 4 of there last 5 games. The spires next contest is at Tabor, Saturday, October 19that 2pm.
