One of the most anticipated films of the year The Joker has had mixed reviews amongst audiences all over the country since its release on October 4th.
The Joker is one of the most iconic villains of all time and has been portrayed by some of the great actors in each generation like Jack Nicholson, Cesar Romero, and Heath Ledger. Joaquin Phoenix’s interpretation of the well-known villain is similar Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight; viewers get to see the sadistic dark beginnings of the man that has been fighting the Batman for over fifty years. Although Todd Phillips, the director, has publicly said that this film is not a Detective Comics origin story, it is how he and the producer thought life before being a notoriously evil villain would have been. The controversy behind the film is growing with people being wary of the portrayal of a man who has a mental illness and resorts to violence to treat it. This can be off-putting for people because of the road Arthur goes down and relatable it is for some people.
